Famous French film director Agnès Varda and a well-known photographer and muralist, known only by his initials JR. They share a common passion for images – questioning the way they are shown, in particular. Varda chose cinema, JR chose to create open-air photographic galleries. When Agnès and JR met in 2015, they immediately wanted to shoot a film in France, away from big cities. This is how their documentary road movie came to be – a portrait of slowly fading French villages and their inhabitants.
