Carmen Tofeni

Romanian-born, the director left for Italy to study cinematography at the Italian National Film School following the courses of Fellini’s master of light, Giuseppe Rotunno.
She had an early interest in the documentary genre, which led her to shoot various docu-projects. Her  previous documentary as DoP, “Building no. 6” (23min.), realized with the support of ARTE and the MEDIA PROGRAMME through the training center Aristoteles Workshop 2010, won the Best Documentary Award and Jury’s Prize at Faces of Poverty Film Festival Budapest 2010. In 2009 she had her documentary, again as DoP, “What Traian Couldn’t See” (6 min.) screened at the Short Film Corner – Cannes Film Festival. Carmen’s graduation short-fiction film “They Are Nobody” as DoP has been nominated for the prestigious David di Donatello award at its 2014 edition. She chose a private story as her directing-debut. The longtime relationship with the main character gave birth to a very intimate footage.
